Working for 12y 7mths in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft electrician.

Trained for 6 months are RAF Halton as and qualified as an aircraft electrian with a City and Guides in electrical engineering. Posted to Scotland at RAF Lossiemouth where I was working on an active buccaneer squadron on 208. I was responsible for repairing the aircraft for flight carrying out before flight turn around and after flight services after each flight or at the end of each day.

I was then posted down to RAF Wyton where in I was working on 360 squadron Camberra aircraft where I was also doing scheduled services and routine electrical repairs on the aircraft electrical and instrumentation systems.

Then I was sent over seas to RAF Laarbruch in Germany in the hangar working on Tornanado GR1 and GR1a aircraft. Being that this was on the run up to the gulf war the work load was very high. Doing scheduled services at set hours in the aircraft life. Fitting special trial fit modifications to the aircraft for the war. As in setting up the aircraft weapons and fly by wire systems. Do all electrical and instruments systems repairs and modifications. Working to strict dead lines and very high accurate working tolerances.

My last tour in the RAF was based at RAF Brize Norton where I worked in two areas. I was first working in the engine bay where I was stripping out the old engine loom and repairing it. Checking the loom for damage and replace the cable if it was damaged. Recover the loom and refit it back to the engine and do a continuity test on the loom to make sure it was correctly wired up. I would also have to bay test items using oscilloscopes and technical service manuals.

My last post was in Base Hangar working on VC10 fright and refueling aircraft for 10 squadron and 101 squadron. Working on all aircraft electrical and instrument systems responsible for angle of attack, speed control, fire detection, height indication. All aircraft lighting. Anything that would be powered by electricity including fuel pumps hydraulic pumps and flap and slat indicators.
